The Glasgow Stags wrapped up their Nationals 2025 campaign in dramatic fashion, clinching the Silver Tier Final in a nail-biting penalty shootout that had fans on the edge of their seats.
After a strong showing in the group stages, the Stags narrowly missed out on a place in the Gold Tier semi-finals, falling short by just a single point. But rather than dwell on the near miss, the team regrouped with their trademark grit and focus, charging through the Silver Tier knockout rounds with discipline, speed, and undeniable heart.
In the championship match, the Stags came out firing, taking an early lead. But Sheffield responded with resilience, scoring twice to go ahead 2–1. With just 1 minute and 23 seconds left in the final period, it was X. Li #56 who stepped up with the equaliser, keeping the Stags’ hopes alive and sending the game to a tense shootout.
The penalty shootout unfolded with high stakes and high tension. Sheffield missed their first attempt, followed by a miss from the Stags. Another failed effort from Sheffield kept the scores level, before Iain Mackintosh #46 stepped up and calmly slotted home the decisive goal for the Stags. With Sheffield needing to score to stay alive, goaltender Craig Orr #26 made a clutch save to deny them once more—securing the shootout victory and the Silver Tier Championship for the Glasgow side.
🗣️ Captain’s Words
Captain Dave Sannino had high praise for his squad after the final whistle:
"I am proud of everyone who wore a Stags jersey that weekend. Everyone gave their all, fought for loose pucks, didn’t shy away from 50/50 battles, played physically, and left everything on the ice. It was an honour to wear the C and play with such a great team."
The triumph not only ends their Nationals campaign on a high but also sets the tone for an exciting 2025/26 season. The Glasgow Stags continue to grow in strength, unity, and ambition.
